US/China Trade War: Beijing Signs Economic Deal With EU

The People’s Republic of China on Monday, cemented a trade agreement with the European Union Commission.

The agreement was reached through a video conference between China’s President Xi Jinping, and EU leaders.

The step is coming at a time when the country and the United States of America are engaging in trade wars.

This has led to several accusations from both countries bordering on intellectual theft, amongst others.

China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Hua Chunying, confirmed the latest trade pact with the EU.

“President Xi Jinping just held a meeting via videoconference with #German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Charles Michel of the #EuropeanCouncil and President Ursula von der Leyen of the #EuropeanCommission.

“The leaders planned for #ChinaEURelations going forward and specified key areas of win-win cooperation.

“They agreed to enhance communication and coordination, uphold multilateralism, jointly address global challenges & elevate bilateral ties to a higher level,” she tweeted.

On her part, the President of the EU Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen, said that the deal was beneficial to European countries.

She also assured that the EU would continue to strengthen its relations with China for greater socio-economic opportunities.

“We have stepped up our engagement with China over the past weeks in the areas of trade, climate & digital.

“We have made some progress in our negotiations on a comprehensive agreement on investment.

“But a lot remains to be done on this and other chapters of our relations, ” she tweeted.
