VIDEO: Police ‘Brutally Beat Up’ Reporter After IGP’s Press Briefing Banning SARS

Barely hours after the Inspector General of Police, Mohammad Adamu, took a decisive step to end police brutality by disbanding the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), some men of the Force have reportedly beaten up a photojournalist, leaving him bleeding from his head.

The incident was said to have happened shortly after IGP Adamu announced the dissolution of SARS on Sunday.

The photojournalist identified as Francis from Arise News was said to have gone to cover the press briefing where the police chief announced the disbandment of SARS.

A man who identified himself as Ferdinand Duru, his colleague from Arise News, was heard in the background of the video lamenting the conduct of the policemen.

He said, “This is my Cameramen, Francis…. just about an hour ago we did a press briefing where we took the IG’s message live on Twitter banning SARS, and on returning from that particular interview, we saw some youths along the road (protesting). While we were trying to speak to them and get their take on the IG’s message, we were attacked by policemen who brutally assaulted Francis and broke his Camera and Arise News Camera…And this is the result of that brutalization…he’s bleeding.
