Wike Visits Police Command, Pledges N20 Million Support For Families Of Dead Officers

Following the recent mayhem that happened in Oyigbo and other parts of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has visited the Rivers State Police Command Headquarters in Moscow Road.

The Governor visited the command on Wednesday 28, 2020 to pay condolence to commiserate with the Nigerian Police and families of the officers killed during the violence alleged perpetrated by the Indigenous People of Biafra.

The Governor expressed his concern over the ugly incident that claimed the lives of the vibrant officers who fought to protect the state with their lives.

He consoled the families present and urged them to stay strong as the State Government would ensure it takes responsibility for their welfare.

The Govenor said: “Do not be discouraged in discharging your duties of protecting lives and properties as the society would run into chaos without the Police.

“I employ everyone of you to stay committed to safeguarding Rivers lives and properties. I commend you all for your selfless efforts in curbing the Mayhem”.

The Governor went on to make a pledge of N20 million to families of each of the Policemen killed in the line of duty in the state.

Wike also promised to rebuild the police stations and barracks that were razed by IPOB.

Reacting to the Governor’s show of love, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Joseph Mukan, thanked Governor Wike and pledged the continued dedication of his men towards ensuring the protection of lives and properties in the state.

He said the police would apprehend all those culpable in the killing of policemen and burning of stations.
