Woman Dissolves Marriage Over Outstanding Dowry

A woman by name Zuwaira Abdulaziz, on Wednesday asked a Magajin Gari Shari’a Court, in Kaduna, to dissolve her marriage to her husband, Musa Dantsoho, over his failure to fully settle her marriage rite.

She told the court that her husband, Dantosho had breached their marriage agreement even after they have had two children.

Abdulaziz further claimed ‘’Dantsoho, only gave N7, 000 out of the agreed N20, 000 dowry prior to their marriage, with a pledge to pay her the outstanding N13, 000 after.

“I never told my parents that he didn’t pay the complete dowry because I trusted him; unknown to me, he is a man with no integrity”, she told the court.

The petitioner appealed to the court to dismiss the marriage through `Khul’i, (compensation to be given to a husband by his wife who desires divorce) as she is willing to return the N7,000 paid as a partial settlement of her dowry, to her husband.

Contradicting the wife’s accusation, Dantsoho said he had since paid his wife the outstanding N13, 000 as dowry.

In favour of Dantsoho, the court president Malam Dahiru Lawal dissolved the marriage, requesting that Abdulaziz returns the dowry of N20, 000 she received from her husband.
