World Leaders React To Terrorist Attack In Austria

World leaders on Tuesday condemned the Monday night terrorist attack in Vienna, Austria, that left about five people dead while more than 14 others sustained serious injuries.

The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs lauded the international community for standing by the country at such trying moment.

“FM Schallenberg: We are truly grateful for the solidarity of our European and international partners in these difficult hours. Austria will not be intimidated by cowardly acts of terror. Together we will defend our open & democratic society,” it tweeted on Tuesday.

Recall that Austria’s Interior Minister Karl Nehammer had disclosed that the country witnessed an attack on Monday by “at least one Islamist terrorist.”

Reuters reported that the “assailant killed by police, and other potential gunmen, attacked six locations in central Vienna on Monday evening, starting outside the main synagogue.”

On his part, the United States Secretary of States, Mike Pompeo stressed that terror in whatever form should not be condoned.

” The U.S. strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Vienna. We express our deepest sympathy to the families of those killed and wounded. We affirm our support for the police and first responders, and stand in solidarity with the people of Austria,” he tweeted.

In his address, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron noted that “Europe is in mourning. One of our own has been hit hard by Islamist terrorism. We think of the victims, their families, the shattered lives. France stands alongside Austria, ready to lend its support.”

Meanwhile, the President of the European Union Commission, Ursula von der Leyen maintained that acts of terror must not be allowed to reign in the continent.

“I am shocked and saddened by the brutal attack that took place in Vienna. My thoughts are with the families of the victims and the Austrian people.

“Europe stands in full solidarity with Austria. We are stronger than hatred and terror,” she tweeted.
