Youth Unemployment: Okupe Urges FG To Stop Banks From Selling Recharge Cards
A former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, has asked the federal government to stop banks from doing recharge card business.
Okupe claimed that such bank operations are widening the gap of unemployment among Nigerian youths, as many now subscribe for airtime and data using bank codes.

He was of the view that recharge card sale was one of the thriving businesses in the country youths can engage in.
As such, he argued that financial institutions like banks should not complicate the unemployment problems bedvelling the country, but that it should allow Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) traders to explore recharge card business.
His Tuesday tweet reads:
“Govt must stop Banks from selling of RECHARGE cards.

“This business is worth about N10B/day and can provide jobs for 5m youths nationwide and reduce unemployment.
“Banks should not be in the retail business where they strangulate small individual traders.
“Govt must protect MSMEs.”
