Zlatan Ibrahimovic Re-joins Manchester United, Signs One-year Contract

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will continue his journey with the English club giants Manchester United as has widely been expected for the last couple of weeks, after he signed a one-year contract.

The former Sweden captain was released at the end of last season after his 2016/17 campaign was brought to a premature end by an ACL injury he suffered during a Europa League quarter-final against Anderlecht, in April.

But United allowed the 35-year-old to use its medical and training facilities at the AON training complex to recover from the injury, with the club’s manager hinting the press last week of a possible come back of the star striker.

The Red Devil official announced his return at the Old Trafford on Thursday and he is expected to inherit Wayne Rooney’s old number 10 shirt, having seen Romelu Lukaku take his number nine jersey upon the Belgian’s £75 million arrival from Everton, last month.

The Swedish international in reaction to the new deal said: “I am back to finish what I started. It was always mine and the club’s intention for me to stay.

“I cannot wait to get back out on that Old Trafford pitch, but I also know that I have to take my time to make sure that I am ready. I have been working hard and will continue to do so to make sure I am in the best possible condition for my return to the pitch.”

While the club’s manager Jose Mourinho said: “We are delighted Zlatan is on the road to recovery and we are equally delighted to have his ambition and experience back with us.

“After his contribution last season he deserves our trust and we will be patient waiting for him to return. I have no doubt that he will be important in the second part of the season.”

The 35-year-old made 46 appearances and scored 28 goals for the club during the 2016/17 campaign before suffering a knee injury, which ended his season prematurely.

Zlatan has won championships in four different leagues since beginning his professional career with Malmo in 1999.
