2019: PDP Berates Buhari Over Alleged Freezing Of Peter Obi’s Accounts

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has berated the President Muhammadu Buhari government over the alleged freezing of the bank accounts of its vice-presidential candidate, Peter Obi, by anti-corruption agencies in the country.

The main opposition party made the allegation in a statement on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan,

The two leading anti-corruption agencies in the country – the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) – have however denied involvement in the alleged freezing of Mr Obi’s accounts and those of his family members.

In the statement, the PDP decried the “stoppage of transactions on all accounts belonging” to Mr Obi, “his wife, his family members and their businesses by agencies of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.”

But in a statement refuting the opposition party’s claim, the EFCC said, “There is no where the EFCC is mentioned in this statement. The EFCC is a law abiding agency and committed to ridding the nation of economic and financial crimes. That, we would not relent to do.”

The PDP had also stated that since Mr Obi’s nomination, “apart from facing series of failed attempts by the APC to destroy his reputation, has also continued to receive all manners of threats and blackmail, including threats to his life and those of his wife and children.”
