2019: Trump’s ‘Lifeless’ Comment Won’t Stop Buhari’s Re-election – Adesina

- Says Comment ‘May Have Been Planted’

The special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, Femi Adesina has described comment allegedly made by Donald Trump about President Muhammadu Buhari as unsubstantiated and unverified.

A report by Financial Times had revealed that Trump, after a meeting with Buhari, reportedly told his aides he never wanted to meet someone as lifeless.

Speaking on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme, Adesina said the presidency has no official position on the alleged comment.

He further said Trump’s comment will not stop Nigerians from electing the president of their choice.

“If it is unverified as it came out, then the presidency has no comment. It does not pass any concerns of good journalism.

On if the comment will have any effect on Buhari’s re-election bid, Adesina said, “No, it won’t. Nigerians are the ones that would ultimately elect their president; no foreign power will determine who gets elected.

“That does not worry us because it is unsubstantiated, unverified. Anybody could have planted it, you know that in the jostle for power people can do anything.”
