AFCON: Gov Otti Commends ‘Unrelenting Strength’ Of Super Eagles After Emerging Second Place

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has lauded the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their impressive run at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023, where they secured a commendable second-place finish.

Despite falling short of lifting the trophy in a thrilling final against host nation Cote d’Ivoire, Governor Otti praised the team’s dedication and fighting spirit, highlighting their role in bolstering Nigeria’s reputation as a dominant force in African football.

“They gave their all and further strengthened our nation’s image,” he stated in a press release issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko.

The final match at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan saw Cote d’Ivoire stage a dramatic comeback to clinch the title with a 2-1 victory. However, Governor Otti commended the Super Eagles for their resilience in the face of a hostile home crowd energised by the presence of Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara.

“They displayed an unrelenting show of strength despite the intimidating roars of the home crowd,” he noted.

Governor Otti further extended his congratulations to three Abia-born players who were instrumental in the team’s success: Samuel Chukwueze, Kenneth Omeruo, and Frank Ogochukwu Onyeka. He specifically singled out Chukwueze for his pivotal role in setting up the team’s first-half goal.
