Again, Amotekun Kills 21-Year-Old In Ibadan, Residents Protest

Men of the Oyo State Security Network Agency also known as Operation Amotekun came under attack on Thursday following the killing of a youth identified as Tosin Thomas by one of its officers.

Thomas, 21 was said to be returning home on Wednesday night when he was allegedly shot by a member of Amotekun.

What led to the shooting was not clear at the time of filing this report but some said the deceased was returning home after work when he met his untimely death.

Some youths, who were angered by the incident, protested the shooting and this led to a crisis at Mokola on Thursday.

The Commandant of Amotekun, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (retd),could not be reached on the matter but the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed it in a statement.

Fadeyi said, ” The police received a report from one Alamu Timothy ‘m’ at Mokola Police Station today 14/01/2021 at about 0910 HRS, and alleged that one Tosin Thomas ‘m’ 21 year of Ode Olo area of Ibadan while going home at Total Filling Station, Mokola, Ibadan.

” He was going home on 13/01/2021 at about 1130 hours and was hit by bullets from gun fired by Amotekun operatives.

“He was rushed to University College Hospital, for immediate medical attention and thereafter was confirmed dead by medical personnel. Investigation has commenced into the matter and further development shall unfold.”

Recall that a 400-level student of the University of Ibadan, Kolade Gbadebo, was shot dead in December by Amotekun operatives who claimed he was an armed robber.

But his family said the allegation was untrue.

Also, two youths were killed by Amotekun at Tapa in the Ibarapa North Local Government Area of the state.
