Algerian football national team coach, Milovan Rajevac has resigned just after two matches in charge of the north African side.

The decision comes just days after the Desert Foxes 1-1 home draw Cameroon in their opening 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier, with many believing the Serb didn’t get the tactics right against the Central Africans who were arguably the more dominant team, especially in the second half.

The 62-year-old met with the Algeria Football Federation president Mohamed Raouraoua on Tuesday and his departure was announced shortly afterwards.

“Mr. Milovan Rajevac resigned today, Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from the post of national coach of the Algeria team,” a statement by the Algerian Football Federation read.

Rajevac was appointed at the end of June this year to take Algeria to the semi-final of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nation and also secure a ticket qualification ticket for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Speculations in Algeria suggested that following the disappointing draw against the Indomitable Lions on Sunday, some of his players openly criticized him.

Meanwhile, following this decision, the Foxes have less than 30 days to name a new coach before they travel to Nigeria to face the Super Eagles on November 12, knowing that a defeat will further dent their hopes of making it to Russia in 2018.
