Appeal Court Rules Against Death Sentence For Singer Charged With Blasphemy

An Appeal Court sitting in Kano has set aside the judgement by an Upper Sharia Court against a Singer, Yahya Sharif Aminu who was prosecuted for allegedly blaspheming Islam.

The Presiding judge, Justice Nuradeen Sagir, who is the state Chief Judge as well as his Co-panelist, Justice Nasiru Saminu, faulted the court’s judgment saying it was full of irregularities.

Furthermore, the court observed that Aminu was not given fair trial.

As such, it ordered that Aminu be retried at the same court on the condition that he is given full legal representation.
