Asisat Oshoala Nominated For Spanish Player Of The Week Prize

Barcelona’s Asisat Oshoala has been nominated for the Spanish Primera Iberdrola Player of the Week prize.

The 24-year-old was named alongside Logrono’s Barbara Banda and Carol Férez, whose strike inspired Valencia’s 2-0 win over Athletic Club on Sunday.

Oshoala ended her three-match drought in style as she struck twice in Barcelona’s 6-1 thrashing of champions Atletico Madrid.

She is earning her second nomination since joining the Catalans in January.

Recall that her first nomination came after her brace helped Barcelona beat Atletico Madrid 2-0 in March.

The winner of the Primera Iberdrola League Player of the Week award will be decided by fan votes.

Oshoala’s nomination is coming barely a week after her coach, Llius Cortes praised her for her pace and power.

“The feeling is we have a complete squad with a lot of competition. Oshoala, we all saw at the end of last season. She has pace and power which is tough to find in any player nationally,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Barcelona striker was last week, named the new captain of the Super Falcons, replacing Desire Oparanozie, who led the team at the 2019 Women’s World Cup in June to reach the knockout stage for the first time in two decades.

The change, which was announced by acting coach of the Falcons, Christopher Danjuma, has sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians.
