Bayelsa Infectious Disease Hospital To Be Completed In 18months-Timipre Sylva

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Timipre Sylva has said the emergency and infectious disease hospital in Bayelsa would be commissioned in the next 18 months.

The minister said this during the groundbreaking event of the edifice meant to serve the people of Bayelsan and the entire South south region.

In recognition of the ravaging impact of COVID -19 pandemic on thel economy , the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry under the leadership of the NNPC embarked on an industry wide collaborative intervention initiative to combat the pandemic and its attendant impact.

In doing this, the corporation embarked on the construction of an infectious disease hospital in Bayelsa on Saturday.

On why the corporation chose Bayelsa State to site the hospital, the minister said the state was of strategic importance to the nation.

He stated further that Bayelsa was where the first commercial discovery of crude oil was achieved thereby launching the country into the league of oil producers.

“it is the state that accounts for almost 40% of the nation’s total onshore oil production. Indeed, nowhere deserves to be selected as the first state to kick- start the most important category of this important intervention initiative than the ‘Glory of all Lands’” He added.

“Today, we are glad to conduct the ground breaking activity of this edifice which has taken the foresight, believe and hard work of individuals and organisations under this partnership.”

He however congratulated the Bayelsa State Government and thanked the NNPC, ENI group of Companies and their partners and other participants for their consideration to execute the project in Bayelsa State.
