BREAKING: ASUU Shuns Meeting With FG

Students of Nigerian public tertiary institutions may have had their hopes of resuming soon dashed as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) shunned a scheduled meeting with the Federal Government on Tuesday.

ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi, confirmed to Channels TV that the union will not attend the meeting called by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.

Ogunyemi said the lecturers boycotted the meeting owing to the failure of the Federal Government to respond to the union’s initial proposal.

Acccording to him, ASUU has met, discussed the new offer with the government and subsequently submitted a proposal.

He said the union will only agree to meet with the government when their proposal is met.

ASUU had a fortnight ago embarked on an indefinite strike, bringing to a halt all academic activities across Federal and State universities across the country.
