BREAKING: Senate Confirms Buratai, Other Service Chiefs As Ambassadors Despite Petitions Against Them

– As Senate Asks Buhari To Post Them To Niger, Cameroon and Chad

Following their confirmation, the Senate on Tuesday asked the President, Muhammadu Buhari, to post the ex-service chiefs who have been confirmed as non-career ambassadors to insurgency prone neighboring countries where their experiences can be utilized.

The Senate’s action followed the presentation of the report by the senate committee on foreign affairs asking the senate to confirm the nominees after their screening.

Speaking on their confirmation, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan said the wealth of experience of the ex-service chiefs who were hitherto in charge of the war against terror in the country would be very useful in liaising with neighbouring West African countries battling same insecurity.

Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate however was skeptical about the capabilities of the nominees to deliver on their Ambassadorial mandates.

Abaribe reminded the Senate of a petition against the nominees, and the Upper Chamber’s past resolutions for their removal while they served as service chiefs.

The Senate President,Ahmad Lawan, was quick to declare Abaribe’s observation as null and void, arguing that the nominees were slated for a different office.
