Plateau State has been in the headlines for the wrong reasons in the last 48 hours.

Suspected herdsmen butchered scores of people across three local governments of Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Riyom.

Police confirm 86 deaths, but several reports put the casualties well above 150, in the attacks which occurred on Saturday through Sunday.

Mr Buhari is currently in Calabar to commission the automated rice seeds and seedlings factory, among other projects.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo visited Plateau on Monday to commiserate with leaders of some of the affected communities.

The VP’s visit was widely criticised, with many calling on the President to visit the troubled state in person.

Meanwhile, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has described the ugly incident on Saturday as payback for the over 300 cattle reportedly rustled from herdsmen by residents of the communities that were attacked.
