Ebonyi Bus Tragedy: We’re Saddened By Colossal Loss Of Lives – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari is saddened by the loss of many lives in Friday’s bus accident in Ebonyi State.

He expressed his condolences to the government and people of the state over the tragedy.

On Friday night, a commercial bus plunged into the Akaeze-Ukwu River in the state with many persons feared dead.

Some accounts quoted between 30 and 36 persons.

As of Saturday night, some 14 bodies had been recovered by rescuers.

“We are saddened and aggrieved at this colossal loss of human lives”, Buhari said a few minutes ago.

He added that the thoughts and prayers of the government and people of Nigeria were with the families of the victims of this accident.

“He commended the Ebonyi state government in spearheading the rescue and recovery efforts as well as the support it has received from the neighbouring state governments in that regard”, his spokesman, Garba Shehu, wrote.

Media reports on Saturday indicated that five passengers were earlier rescued alive, though one of them later gave up the ghost in a hospital.
