EFCC: 31 Internet Fraudsters Sentenced in Enugu, Awka

The Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction and sentencing of 31 individuals involved in internet fraud.

The convictions took place in both Enugu and Awka, Anambra State. Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court in Enugu sentenced 10 individuals, while Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court in Awka sentenced the remaining 21.

In Enugu, ten individuals, including Pascal Chinedu, Chiemerie Edeh, and Okeke Chiagozie Harrison, pleaded guilty to charges of fraudulent impersonation, obtaining money by false pretense, and possessing fraudulent documents. They received sentences ranging from six months to two years imprisonment, with varying fines.

Twenty-one individuals in Awka, including Nnabuike Collins Odoh and Agada Daniel Olema, pleaded guilty to similar charges. Two were sentenced to one year imprisonment with fines, while the remaining nineteen received two weeks of community service.

In addition to imprisonment and fines, all convicted individuals forfeited their mobile phones used in the crime.

The EFCC encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected internet fraud to the appropriate authorities.
