ESUT VC Denies Graduating Students During ASUU Strike

The Vice-Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Prof. Charles Eze, on Monday denied allegations that the school had graduated PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) students despite the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The Vice Chancellor, in an exclusive interview with THE WHISTLER, said that no PhD student graduated under his watch during the ASUU ongoing strike.

He also alleged that people spreading such views were trying to destroy the reputation of the university, of which he is a major stakeholder.

“Phd Students! No it’s not true, not to my knowledge; it’s not true. You know, this age of social media people carry about fake news. How can they graduate when the PG school is shut there…nobody graduated any PhD candidate and you can be sure the VC will know if such ever happened.

“Those are rumor mongers, detractors who want to tarnish the image of the university, nothing of that sort. If there was no examination can you talk about payment? It’s just one of those things, you should discountenance it, it is not true,” he said.

Recall that ASUU Zonal Coordinator, Igbana Ajir, Nsukka Zone, was said to have warned the school’s management against the alleged attempt to use military men to compel its students to write the examination.

But Eze debunked the claims saying there was no such thing in the university.

Meanwhile, he clarified that the school has been using police officers to secure the school environment.

He also added that the school would start conducting examinations on November 30.

“That one has been trending, it is not true. Somebody just cooked a write up and signed; if you come across it you will know it is not the signature of our Registrar.

“There is this usual practice in ESUT where we invite the police to just stand in strategic places to ensure impersonators don’t come to write exams for people. It has been there for over ten years and it is an existing practice and that was the only thing we tried to do. And even the exam people are saying we are forcing people to write never took place; it’s only on 30th of November that we are planning to commence the exams,” he said.
