“He scored 316 votes to beat other aspirants,” the party announced ahead of the election that will be held in September.

The former NBA Chairman had in the past days been drawn to battle the party leadership over his concern that he was being schemed out for the highest bidder.

In a scathing letter addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmoud Yakubu, Akpata said the party was “not ready for the primary.”

The party however countered saying the fear the former NBA stalwart had expressed was unfounded and quickly rescheduled a date for its primary.

Akpata would be squaring up against the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asue Ighodalo and Senator Monday Okpebholo, who emerged candidates on Thursday and Friday respectively.
