FCT Minister To Create Database For Beggars

The minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Muhammad Bello on Wednesday said his Administration is set to create a database for all beggars and destitute arrested within the city.

The FCT minister revealed this during a visit to the Vocational and Rehabilitation Centre in Kuchiko, Bwari area council Abuja, where all the arrested beggars were taken to.

Bello said, an establishment of a database would provide the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) with adequate information on those arrested and serve as a guidance for the government to make adequate preparation for their repatriation.

The minister also directed the FCT social development secretariat to make sure that all those arrested are captured in the database for easy reference.

Likewise, the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) and the FCT Task Team on Environment are expected to assemble and register all arrested beggar and destitute before taking them to the Vocational and Rehabilitation Centre where the social development staff will officially receive and hand them over to the management of the rehabilitation Centre.

Bello also ordered the Centre to begin the process of repatriation of the beggars and destitute in line with the extant rules to their various states of origin where the social welfare officials in such states are to receive them officially.

Bala Tsoho, the principal of the Vocational and Rehabilitation Centre, further confirmed to the minister that 145 new beggars and destitute were just brought into the Centre.

He said the welfare of the inmates especially regular feeding has drastically improved since the minister assumed duty.
