Five Die Due To Dangerous Driving In Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Accident

Five people on Wednesday lost their lives while 10 sustained serious injuries in a multiple accident that happened along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The accident, which involved two trucks and a bus occurred around 9:56 am.

According to the Spokesperson for Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, the cause of the crash was dangerous driving on the part of one of the truck drivers.

It was gathered that a total of 15 people were involved in the accident comprising 11 male and four female adults.

Okpe informed that the injured victims were taken to Famobi Hospital Mowe, Ogun State, while the corpses were deposited at Idera Hospital morgue Sagamu, also in Ogun.

“The suspected cause of the crash was dangerous driving on the part of one of the trucks which made a sudden U-turn without any indication to alert the truck behind which led to loss of control on both the truck and the bus.

“The injured victims were taken to Famobi Hospital Mowe while the corpses were deposited at Idera Hospital morgue Sagamu.

“It was a combined rescue operation of FRSC, Nigeria Police Force and other sister agencies were all on the ground managing the situation,” the statement reads partly.

Meanwhile, the Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC, Anthony Uga has cautioned motorists on speed and reckless driving warning that any driver found wanting in a crash that claims lives will be prosecuted forthwith to serve as a deterrent to other drivers.
