FLASHBACK: After Choosing ‘Death’ Over Defection To APC, Fani-Kayode Finally Joins Party

After years of criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Femi Fani-Kayode has joined the ruling party on Thursday.

The Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, led Fani-Kayode to the State House where he was officially received to the party by President Buhari.

The former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier hinted his defection via an Instagram post, saying “Great changes are coming very soon! Stay tuned and stay blessed”

Amidst speculations of his planned defection to the APC in 2018, the former minister had said “I am committed to opposing the APC and those that are in their ranks for the rest of my natural life and I will never join them no matter what!” adding that he would “rather die than join APC or bow to Buhari.”

He made the statement after former Senator Musiliu Obanikoro defected from the PDP to the APC.

Also, in February, Fani-Kayode had denied planning to join the party, saying: “Though we have had meetings across party lines and we are in a season of political consultation I have not left the PDP.”

He said his previous meetings with Buni and Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State revolved around “pressing national concerns, party politics and host of affairs” adding that “The fact that I am in talks with leaders from a cross-section of political parties, including the ruling party, does not in any way derogate from this and does not mean that I will ever change those views.”

In one of his vituperations against President Buhari, the former minister had described the APC administration as “miserable”.
