Gaza: Security Of Journalists Paramount, U.S. Tells Israel After Airstrikes

Israel’s major ally, the United States has cautioned the country against attacking media houses or journalists in its ongoing fight against Hamas’ military organization in Gaza, Palestine.

The development is coming after the Israel Defense Force blew up a building hosting Al jazeera and the Associated Press media platforms.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported that the IDF claimed that the affected building was being used by Hamas to strategize its attacks in Israel.

It added that it notified those occupying the building to leave before launching the airstrikes.

But White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, said the US government had made it clear to Israel that it should ensure the safety of media houses and journalists, come what may.

“We have communicated directly to the Israelis that ensuring the safety and security of journalists and independent media is a paramount responsibility,” Psaki tweeted.

The rift between Israel and Palestine started on Monday after Palestinian worshippers clashed with Israeli security operatives at a mosque situated at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

The escalation has led to the death of over a hundred persons with several thousands displaced and sustaining injuries.
