‘I Can’t Smell For Months Now’ – Man Nervous After Nollywood Producer Shared COVID-19 Experience

The COVID-19 experience shared by a Nollywood movie producer, Editi Effiong, has sparked off a discussion among Nigerians who have either recovered from COVID-19 or were currently experiencing some symptoms of the virus.

Effiong, whose recent tweets indicated that he was battling depression, had revealed his COVID-19 status on Friday night.

He said for the first time in one week, his battle with Covid-19 made him realize that he didn’t want to die, as against the urge he previously had due to his supposed battle with depression.

“Totally on brand that I caught my own COVID now,” Effiong had said, adding on Friday night, “I woke up this morning and for the first time in a week, I didn’t feel like dying. This virus really took it personal.”

Effiong, who is one of the producers of popular Nollywood movie ‘Up North’, had been sharing some cryptic posts on Twitter, including one where he seemed to be questioning his own trust in God.

“I once thought we needed to be good, to be kind, to love our neighbours, in hope for redemption, some grace and kind safe keeping.

“I have little faith left in these things today, and the creator, our father in heaven, has not made it easy to trust in him any longer.

“Please do not preach to me. I trusted God without question, even on the day I put my child in the ground. I never asked questions.

“If God needs to wreck a man just to prove a point, that’s plain wickedness and I am not here for that,” he had said in a series of tweets.

Effiong’s revelation about his COVID-19 status prompted other Nigerians with similar experiences or symptoms of the virus to also speak out.

One of the Twitter users (@Twistersife) said in reaction to Effiong’s post: “Please what’s the smell test, I lost my sense of smell and counting down till the 11th day like they said.”

@Maiconsfr said: “This happened to me too, I can’t smell for months now, what can I use?”

@Dragonmum6: “…Covid is a badass. For post-covid recovery I am using Vit C, zinc, D3, B12, Gluthatione, Magnesium, and strong Iron Syrup. Rhinatiol for cough, Albuterol for..If you have lost smell, try smell test (and prayer). Rest, rest and more rest.”

@OsasenagaEno: “The mornings are usually the worse. I would wake up feeling grateful for the days I was healthy and remorseful for taking those days for granted. Worse is the fatigue and lose of appetite. On a side note, there needs to be a support group for covid19 patients. Shit is scary”

@Lamziea1: “Apart from the two days mild fever, my main symptom was loss of smell, I took vitamin c and steamed frequently and was able to smell things on day 5”

@JeminDoris: “Mine was scary. Didn’t know if it was COVID or cold but my doctor said to do steaming and I added 1000ml Vitamin C (eat before taking) and cough syrup. I regained my sense of smell that was lost 5 days ago and coughed out the phlegm in my throat. Cold too can lead to smell loss.”

@OrieFaith: “The lost of smell wasn’t my problem, you see that fever,it was the badest of all badest… You will pray for health and even if you hate pills, this time no body go force you. Sorry Mr. Effiong”
