INSECURITY: Increase Operation In NorthWest Region – Defence Minister Tells Military

The federal government has called for a robust military operation in the North West region of the country, following the rising cases of banditry in some of the states.

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, on Friday directed the military command to deploy more foot soldiers, while adopting proactive measures in clamping down on insecurity.

Speaking to the press, Matawalle said, “The safety and well-being of our citizens remain paramount and it is imperative that decisive action be taken to curb the menace of terrorism and banditry in our communities.

“Enhanced security in the region will not only safeguard the lives and properties of our people but also improve the quality of farming and irrigation.

“Farmers will be able to cultivate their lands without fear of attacks, thus ensuring food security and economic prosperity for the region.”

The minister’s directives followed the recent incident of the abduction of two local vigilantes and the abduction of an unknown number of residents in Kaduna State on Thursday.

The situation led the residents of Gonin Gora and Kakau Ward, from the Chikun Local Government Area of the state to block the Kaduna-Abuja highway, demanding a halt to insecurity in their area.
