John Ogar, a retailer in Abuja, said the high prices have slowed down his business significantly.

“What I’m doing now is just managing. Nothing is moving again. Before, I used to make purchases two or three times a week depending on the market, but now I hardly purchase twice a week because sales are poor,” Ogar told THE WHISTLER.

He added, “Customers do not buy like before. Everybody is cutting their purchases because of the high cost of things in this country. Hunger is everywhere.”

Ogar urged the government to provide loans to help boost their businesses and reduce hunger in the country.

Another retailer, Kenneth, said the price increase are ruining businesses and leaving people confused.

“Every day things are increasing, and if you don’t follow the current prices, your business will fail because we see new prices daily, even hourly,” he lamented.

According to Kenneth, there are no profits anymore in the business.

“It’s very difficult to feed these days. If we work and can’t eat, what’s the point? We’re just managing with the little we have. We hope the government will help by opening the borders for food imports,” he added.

The retailers said the high prices and low sales have forced them to scale down purchases, leading to empty shelves in many shops.
