IYC Suspends President Peter Igbifa For Staging Own Kidnap

The Ijaw Youths Council has suspended its president, Peter Timothy Igbifa, after passing a vote of no confidence on him.

He is accused, among other things, of stage-managing his abduction and release.

Recall that Igbifa was allegedly abducted by unknown gunmen along the Port Harcourt International Airport road on Tuesday on his way to Abuja.

He claimed his abductors dropped him at a location in Bayelsa State 24 hours later.

But in a statement by Tamuno Kpokpo, the Chairman, IYC, Eastern Zone and Daminabo Prince Eugene, Secretary, the group said its investigation showed that Igbifa staged his own kidnap, an action that “embarrassed the I jaw nation.”

The statement said after an emergency congress on Friday,
the group passed a vote of no confidence on him, suspended him and appointed Comrade Israel Fubara, as acting president.

The statement said Igbifa was suspended due to “Maligning, misleading and misinforming the ijaw nation and the general public about his stage managed adoption, which to the best of his and our knowledge its not a possibility for such to happen to the president of highly respected youth body the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide.”

IYC said anyone still dealing with Igbifa on behalf of the group does so” at his/her perils as the council will not be held responsible for anything committed by him.”
