JUST IN: ‘Masked Men’ Abduct IYC President After Group Gave FG Ultimatum To Reconstitute NDDC Board

Masked men suspected to be operatives of the Department of State Services(DSS) on Tuesday allegedly whisked away the president of Ijaw Youths Council, Comrade Peter Timothy Igbifa.

Igbifa was billed to lead a protest in Abuja today following the expiration of a one-week ultimatum his group issued to the FG to reconstitute the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC).

THE WHISTLER learnt Igbifa was scheduled for a meeting in Abuja today, where other Ijaw leaders and officials of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) are said to be waiting for his arrival.

Igbifa had earlier issued advisory to all staff of multinational oil companies in the Niger Delta to vacate the region until the board of NDDC is inaugurated.

A source in the IYC told this website that Igbifa spoke to some of his aides before he was whisked away.

Igbifa reportedly said: “Though I am kidnapped but tell the people that the protest must hold, no body can infringe on the right of Niger Delta people. ”

Efforts to reach other IYC executives have proved abortive as the Secretary of IYC is yet to respond to calls and text messages sent to him.

The Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, when contacted by THE WHISTLER, said he had been briefed by IYC officials.

He said they told him the kidnapped happened on his way to the airport along the Omagwa Road.

“I have directed immediate investigation into the kidnap. We await positive response as we are on the matter.”
