Kidnappers Don’t Deserve Trial, But Immediate Capital Punishment— Remi Tinubu

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, OIuremi Tinubu, on Friday, advocated for capital punishment for kidnappers over the rampant nature of the crime in the country.

The former lawmaker made her assertion known in commemoration of the International Women’s Day Celebration during a meeting with the National Women Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House, Abuja.

According to Tinubu, the kidnappers were cowards who could not take on men of their size, but only focus on women and girls.

“They are cowards. Our hearts bleed. I call on the state governments that once we take hold of them, they deserve capital punishment. Why can’t they take men of their size, why are they touching women and children,” she said in a statement signed by SA Media to the First Lady Busola Kukoyi.

The first lady further decried the mass abduction of pupils from a school in Kaduna, North-west Nigeria.

THE WHISTLER reports that armed men stormed the Local Government Education Authority Primary and Secondary School (LGEA) in Kuriga village in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, kidnapping over 200 pupils including a teacher.

Referring to the incident, Mrs. Tinubu said, “Why will you now take them from their schools? Right now, I think enough is enough. As a former lawmaker, I believe that any one of them captured deserves capital punishment.

“I believe most mothers will support me on this because we carry our children for nine months, and we cannot watch what we love to wither away”.

Earlier, the group, led by its National Women Leader, Dr Mary Idele Alile, her Deputy, Hajia Zainab Ibrahim and members of the Executive, thanked the First Lady for her impacts on the lives of Nigerians through her various interventions on the platform of the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI.
