Malami’s Lawyer Asks Sahara Reporters To Apologize For ‘Libelous’ Publications Or Face Lawsuit

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has through his lawyer, issued a letter to Omoleye Sowore, publisher of the Sahara Reporters.

The letter signed by S.I. Ameh SAN has the heading : “Demand For Immediate Apology And Retraction Of Libelous Publications And Criminal Defamation Against Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN”

Ameh stated that on the 10th,11th and 12th of July, the media platform made malicious publications against their client.

The letter added that “series of articles/materials were published by Sahara Reporters Inc. via its online internet platform and broadcasted on the
internet via the Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and other similar Social Media platforms where same could be viewed and assessed by the whole world and further shared and/or disseminated virally without restraint.”

Sahara Reporters had on July 11, published a story with the heading : “New Multi-million Naira Property Built By Nigeria’s Attorney-General, Malami, For Son In Kebbi State Uncovered.”

Hence, the letter demanded an “immediate and unequivocal retraction of your libelous publication against him within the next 7 days” adding that the apology must be captured in the six national dailies for 3 consecutive days.

“Take further notice that, if our client does not receive a positive response from you through our office within the 7 days window stated above, you will leave us with no other option than to give full effect to our client’s extant instructions to seek legal redress on his behalf,” the letter read.
