The whereabouts of one Tobechukwu Ndu, an indigene of Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State who reportedly disappeared after checking into a hotel in Lagos has become the subject of a petition to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba.

Ezimo Unity Forum, an umbrella body of the elite of Ezimo community in Udenu LGA of Enugu State, weekend, wrote to IGP Baba to use his good offices to investigate the whereabouts of Mr. Ndu who allegedly went missing at a Lagos hotel last Wednesday.

Ndu, a native of the community, was said to have checked in at Jodus Event Centre, located at 17, Ariyo Street, Ira road, Ojo, Lagos, on Tuesday, 4th May, 2021, and had not been seen since then.

The group, in an open letter entitled, ‘Mysterious Disappearance of Our Son at Lagos Hotel’, dated 15th May, 2021, signed by its president, Onyekachi C. Ugwu, and secretary, Anayo Ossai, further expressed suspicion over conflicting reports on the date the missing man reportedly checked out of the hotel.

The letter read, “We humbly draw your attention to the mysterious disappearance of one Tobechukwu Ndu, a native of Ezimo in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State at a Lagos hotel.

“Mr Ndu left Cotonou for Enugu on Tuesday 4th May 2021. He got to Lagos in the evening of the same day, and checked in at Jodus Event Centre, located at 17, Ariyo Street, Ira road, Ojo, Lagos.

“He was in contact with his wife at the time of checking in. But shortly after, his wife lost contact with him as he was not picking his calls again, although his phone kept ringing.

“A private tracker traced his phone around Ojo area, but with no specific locations. The relatives had gone to the afore-mentioned hotel to make enquiries. They were told Tobechukwu checked in on Tuesday, 4th May, 2021, and checked out the next day.

“The matter was reported to the Nigeria Police in Lagos on Sunday, 9th May, 2021. To our astonishment, the same hotel receptionist claimed Tobechukwu checked out on Saturday, 8th May, 2021.

“However, the receptionist could not produce where he signed out on the alleged Saturday. We therefore plead that you use your good offices to unravel the circumstances surrounding his whereabouts.”

Muyiwa Adejobi, Lagos State police PRO, did not reply to messages sent to both his phone number and email as at the time of filing this report.
