My Parents Wanted Me To Become A Priest Before I Disowned Them — Charly Boy

Ace Nigerian singer and songwriter, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has recounted how he disowned his parents over religious differences.

The controversial figure said during a recent interview on the ‘Honest Bunch podcast’ that his parents damaged him with religion.

Charly Boy is the second son of former Supreme Court Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.

Recounting his early days, Charly Boy said he was on course to becoming a catholic priest until he decided to quit.

The controversial figure, who spoke in pidgin English said, “As you see me I spoil from belle, you can imagine at 16 I don born, my first son is almost 52 years. I was scamming banks even before una begin hear 419, I don do small and they paid.

“My papa when I dey small damaged me with religion and religiosity. I was 13/ 14 when I begin serve mass for church, because for our house that time every time na bible study. E been dey hungry all of us to be mass servers that time, after 6 years, it was time to be a reverend father, me I think say I can become a revered father. Na so I waka enter seminary for class one before the war broke out. I was actually going to become a priest but I see say this kind thing no fit me.

“Ever since them born me, my own na to cause disruption, even until I disowned my parents. You no fit tell me make I no go here, na there I dey go. I no dey like to dey do wetin every other person dey do, I no get reason. That was the way I was carved,” he said.
