N/Delta Dialogue: Osinbajo Visits Akwa Ibom

Acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday visited Akwa Ibom State as part of his on-going tour of the Niger Delta.

The visit is in-line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration’s renewed engagements with leaders in oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta region.

Akwa-Ibom makes it the fifth state the Osinbajo is visiting in the last one month after Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Imo states.

The essence of the on-going tour according to the Presidency is to make the Niger Delta, a vibrant and dynamic economic zone and also to improve the general quality of lives of the people in the region.

Over the years the indigenes of Niger Delta have ensured hardship following the negative impact of oil spills in their environment, both land and water, which makes it impossible for the locals to either fish or farm, despite the abundance of

resources.

Recent statistics shows that oil contributes over 70% of Nigeria’s revenue.
