NIGER: 15 Kidnap Victims Escaped After ‘Drunk’ Guard Dozed Off

About 15 persons abducted alongside pupils of the Salihu Tanko Islamic School in Niger State have reportedly escaped from their captors’ den on Sunday.

The victims were said to have escaped while the guard manning the den dozed off after excessive intake of liquor.

Reports said the victims had been taken to a forest in Zamfara State after their abduction.

Daily Trust reports that while the guard slept, the abductees quietly opened the door to the hideout in the forest and escaped.

However, only five have returned successfully to the state and are currently receiving medical attention, said the report.

The Niger State Government has reportedly launched a search and rescue operation for the remaining 10.

Their escape raises hope that the 156 children abducted by bandits may soon regain their freedom.

THE WHISTLER had earlier reported that two mothers whose children were among those abducted had died on learning of their abduction.
