NNPC On Track To Becoming Global Oil Company – Reps C’ttee

The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) has commended the sustained drive by the current management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC) to reposition the national oil firm for transparency and accountability.

The committee made the commendation when its chairman, Hon. Musa Sarkinadar, led other members on a working visit to the Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, at the NNPC Towers in Abuja.

Sarkinadar said despite challenges facing the NNPC, the organization was making consistent efforts at becoming more transparent and accountable.

The committee’s chairman said if sustained, the NNPC was sure to become “a global oil company” in the nearest future.

“We know there are challenges but we equally appreciate the efforts NNPC is making towards transparency and accountability. We’re happy there are vibrant people in the Corporation who can take us to a global oil company,” Sarkinadar.

Meanwhile, as part of efforts to enhance its commitment to accountability and transparency, the NNPC had recently joined over 65 extractive companies operating under strict standards of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.

The move was to ensure that the national firm continually observed EITI guidelines, which include full disclosure of financial activities and promotion of transparency in its operations.
