NNPC: “Why We Sponsor Science Quiz Competition Among Schools”- Kyari

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, has said the corporation will continue to play a critical role in building the nation through investment in people and its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Kyari disclosed this on Thursday in his opening remarks to kick off the grand finale of the NNPC Science Quiz 2019, at the Corporations headquarters in Abuja, saying the move is to upscale Nigeria’s intellectual assets.

According to him out of the 47,628 students who participated in the annual quiz Contest in the past years many of the winners have become successful icons in the country.

 “Today we are proud to say that many of the winners have become successful engineers, medical doctors, environmental scientists and ICT professionals within and outside the country,” he said.

There are 18 whiz kids competing in the grand finale of the quiz three each representing the nation’s six geopolitical zones.

Dignitaries present at the event include the Minister of State Petroleum Resources (HMSPR) Timipre Sylva, President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote

Others include the Governor of Bauchi State, Sen. Bala A. Mohammed and Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum (represented by Sen. Abubakar Kyari).

The NNPC quiz competition designed mainly for the student in the Nation’s secondary schools was inaugurated in 2000 and limited to states in the Niger Delta, but went national in 2001.  Till date, it has run 17 national editions.
