‘No Vacancy’ — APC Rejects Yahaya Bello’s ‘Bid’ To Dislodge Ganduje As National Chairman

The National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has dismissed an alleged bid by the immediate-past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to succeed Abdullahi Ganduje as the party’s national chairman.

Bello’s posters surfaced in parts of Abuja on Monday, suggesting that he may be eyeing the top party position.

But Morka has noted that the current National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, leads the National Working Committee (NWC) and urged Bello to refrain from distracting the party with his potential candidacy.

There had been rumours of discontent among the North Central stakeholders of the party due to the zoning of the chairman’s position.

But Morka reiterated the party’s loyalty to Ganduje who until his current position was the governor of Kano State.

“There is no vacancy in the office of the National Chairman of the party. Our National Chairman remains in his role, and we have total confidence in his leadership,” stated Morka.

Following the forced exit of Abdullahi Adamu as APC chairman in August 2023, Ganduje immediately replaced him.

While Bello has not officially declared his ambition, the APC spokesman cautioned against efforts to create confusion within the party, emphasizing that the office is not vacant.

Morka further warned against the distribution of Bello’s posters, asserting that the party fully supports Ganduje in his current position.

“We also have seen some of those posters. Look, this is democracy. People do what they like. But make no mistakes, the office of the national chairman is properly and fully occupied and we have total and absolute confidence in his (Ganduje) leadership of the party. So, nobody is asking for the office to be declared vacant. No, it is not vacant.

“And just to warn those who are throwing some of these papers around to desist”.
