Ondo Poll: How Makinde, PDP Leaders Won Support For Jegede

A former governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Boluwaji Kunlere, has revealed that Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, and other leaders of the party played prominent roles in reconciling co-aspirants with the winner of the party’s primary election, Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN).

He disclosed this in an interview with THE WHISTLER.

Kunlere, who is a former Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on National Security, said the intervention of the governor and other critical stakeholders within the party made he and his colleagues to decise to fully support Jegede.

Kunlere however said the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, refused to be part of the reconciliation. Ajayi has dumped the PDP for the Zenith Labour Party.

He advised Jegede to pick a popular politician from Ondo South Senatorial District as his running mate in order make the electorate in the district to vote the PDP candidate.

Kunlere, who is a former Secretary of the PDP in Ondo.State said the indirect primary election was not a true test of popularity of aspirants, saying the delegates could be easily bought in the system.

He siad, “We have agreed to work with the candidate. He has been consulting and party elders visited us . We held.meeting twice, the Governor of Oyo State ( Seyi Makinde) and some party elders and other aspirants were part of the meetings.

” He (Jegede) has visited all the co-aspirants except one ( deputy governor) and we have all agreed to work for him. I am party man and i don’t need to demand money to work for the party.

“We beleive it was the turn of the Ondo South Senatorial District to produce the next governor of the state. That was the reason the highest number of aspirants came from South. Six of us are from Ondo South. Out of the eight aspirants that contested the primary election, six are from Ondo South. So, it will be good if he picks a popular politician as his running mate from Ondo South.

“If he picks a running mate that will add value to him, there will be no problem in the election. The one there is just a stop gap, at the right time he will announce the real running mate that will become the deputy governor by the grace of God.”
