Osun Poll: Court Refuses To Stop Adeleke’s Candidacy

An Osun State High Court says it cannot stop the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to contest in the September 22 gubernatorial election.

In the ruling delivered on Wednesday, Justice David Oladimeji said the document submitted by the senator has “some serious and damaging irregularities” but the court can’t stop him from contesting next month’s poll.

The judge also held that the plaintiffs failed to prove the allegation preferred against Adeleke.

Two members of the PDP, Rasheed Olabayo and Idowu Oluwaseun, had filed a suit seeking an order of the court to stop Adeleke as the flagbearer of the PDP, on the grounds that the senator did not have the required educational certificate to contest the poll.

But Justice Oladimeji said the first defendant was educated up to secondary school level.

He equally held that the plaintiffs did not raise the issue of forgery in the origination summon and failed to prove that the documents were forged.
