Pay Royalty To Nollywood Actors, AGN Tells DSTV

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has told Africa’s top satellite TV service DSTV and African Magic to pay royalty to its actors in order to prevent them from wallowing undue hardship.
This information was according to a statement signed by the Guild’s Publicist, Mr. Benjamin Praise in Abuja on Friday.
Praise, in the statement noted that the TV service incessantly deny the actors royalty despite the huge sums of revenue made by the company makes from showing their movie.

“It is wrong for DSTV, through African Magic, to enrich themselves and their country without due cognisance to the actors,” the statement read.
“Our actors who represent the golden hen that lays the golden egg suffer and die in abject poverty to the glory of his adversaries.”
In addition, the President of Guild, Mr Emeka Ike, advocated for support from the public, adding that Nollywood is fast going into extinction “and replaced with New Nollywood of unprecedented indecency and abuses.’’
He pleaded with the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, to reconsider his decision on the removal of AGN representative in the Motion Pictures Practitioners Council of Nigeria (MOPPICON) bill committee.

The MOPPICON bill if implemented, would regulate, administer and control motion picture practice in the country, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
