Plateau Attack: Dogara Fumes, Calls For Overhaul Of Security Agencies

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has called for a restructuring of the country’s security apparatus following the recent deadly attack in Plateau State.

No fewer than 86 people were killed after suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded several communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government of the state.

The Police Command in Plateau has confirmed the affected communities to include, Razat, Ruku, Nyarr, Kura and Gana-Ropp villages of Gashish District in.

Reacting, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Turaki Hassan on Sunday, the House speaker, who condemned the killings, questioned the absence of security agents during an attack which reportedly lasted for more than 15 hours.

He further said the level of violence and dreadful killings of innocent and helpless citizens has drastically increased thus becoming a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy and must be stopped.

“Our security agencies must rise up to the task of securing the lives of citizens of this country,’’ he said.

“The attack reportedly lasted from 1:00 p.m. noon of Friday, and lasted till about 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.

”Where were the Police and other security agencies that they failed to respond to stop the killings?

“This further strengthens my constant call for an overhaul of the entire security apparatus of this country. It just isn’t working,”
