Sack Buratai If You’re Serious About Corruption Fight – Falana Tells Buhari

Nigerian Lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN), has asked the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, to voluntarily resign following his Dubai property scandal.

Falana in a statement said if the Army Chief refuses to resign, President Muhammadu Buhari should not hesitate to sack him if he is truly serious about fighting corruption.

The Human rights activist strongly criticized the Army Chief, saying that the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) must be involved in Buratai’s investigation.

He said that Buratai must properly explain to Nigerians how he managed to save money to purchase properties worth $1.5m in Dubai.

According to Falana, the “cock and bull story” that the Army Chief paid for the properties in installments through his personal savings was not acceptable.

“In view of the ban on the opening and operation of foreign accounts by public officers, the Code of Conduct Bureau should be involved in the investigation.”

“If the Chief of Army Staff does not deem it fit to resign forthwith President Buhari should not hesitate to remove him in the interest of national morality.”

Falana also noted that Buratai must step down as Chief of Army Staff to enable the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) carry out a full scale investigation of the Arms Procurement deal.
