In a move aimed at easing the financial burden on civil servants, Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State approved the conversion of May 2025 salaries which was initially paid ahead of the Eid-el-Adha celebration into an interest-free loan, repayable over three months.
He said that the salary advance paid before the festival was intended to help workers meet the heightened financial demands of the season.
However, with many civil servants still reeling from the festive expenses, the government has now decided to spread the repayment across three convenient monthly deductions.
“I am aware that many of our workers are still facing financial challenges due to the expenses incurred during the Sallah festivities, this measure is intended to support them by easing immediate financial strain.”
He expressed confidence that the repayment plan would provide relief to civil servants while maintaining the state’s fiscal stability.
In a related development, the governor also directed the immediate payment of June salaries to all categories of workers covering state civil servants, local government staff, Local Government Education Authorities (LGEA), and pensioners beginning from Monday, June 30.
