South East Leaders Resolve To End Sit-At-Home

Igbo leaders of thought Tuesday in Enugu resolved to collectively stop the routine Monday sit-at-home order in the Southeast region.

The leaders observed that the continuation of the exercise on Mondays when the Indigenous People of Biafra had cancelled it means that those behind it want to destroy the economy of the region.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State was the host. In attendance were the chairman of the Southeast Governors’ Forum and governor of Ebonyi State, Engr David Umahi; and that of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma.

The deputy governor of Abia State, Ude Oko Chukwu, was also in attendance. Chief Willie Obiano of Anambra State did not attend.

Former Abia State governor Senator Theodore Orji, former Ebonyi governor Martins Elechi, former chief of arrmy staff, Gen Azubuike Ihejirika; religious.leaders and the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo also attended.

The leaders resolved that they would no longer watch the economy of the region to collapse under any guise.

A release after the meeting read that, “The meeting condemned the sit-at-home orders, which are mostly issued by our people in diaspora who do not feel the pains.

“In view of the information that even IPOB has cancelled the sit-at-home, the meeting resolved that governors and all people of the Southeast do everything within the law to ensure that there’s no further sit-at-home in the Southeast and that the people are allowed to freely move about in the zone.”

The leaders further decried the killings and destruction of property in the region which are gradually becoming an everyday affair.
