Huddersfield End Manchester United’s Unbeaten Run

Manchester United suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of newly promoted Huddersfield Town on Saturday, their first loss of the season.

Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre scored at the John Smith’s Stadium to give Huddersfield a first win over United since 1952, leaving Jose Mourinho’s side 5 points behind Manchester City at the top of the standings.

Huddersfield took the lead in the 28th minute after Mooy dispossessed Juan Mata in midfield, layed the ball to Tom Ince and then fired home after Ince’s shot was blocked by David De Gea.

United lost defender Phil Jones to injury and his replacement Victor Lindelof was to blame for Huddersfield’s second when he completely misjudged a long clearance from keeper Jonas Lossl, allowing Belgian Laurent Depoitre to round De Gea and slot home.

United pulled one bag in the 78th minute when Marcus Rashford headed home a Romelu Lukaku cross, but that was not enough as the home side held firm for a hostoric victory.

City took full advantage by beating Burnley 3-0, with Sergio Aguero equalling Eric Brook’s all-time club scoring record of 177 goals.
