No Plans To Dump PDP- Shekarau

The immediate past Minister of Education, and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau has refuted reports insinuating that he was planning to dump the PDP.

A media report, on Sunday, had alleged that Malam Shekarau, who was the presidential candidate of the All Nigerian Peoples Party in 2011 election, has concluded plans to dump the PDP and form a new political platform to pursue his 2019 presidential ambition.

But in a swift reaction on Monday, Shekarau while speaking to newsmen in Kano, described the report as unfounded and despicable, reiterating his loyalty to the PDP.

Shekarau said that he had no reason, whatsoever, to leave the party at this time or to think of forming another party.

He said, “I, Sardunan Kano, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, has never participated in any meeting with any person or group of persons for the purpose of forming a political party.”

According to him, like minded members of the party had held series of meetings, but the focus of the meeting was on re-building the party and to find solutions to some of the problems affecting the party.

“The focus of our consultations and meetings with like minds was to ensure internal democracy, which will help the party to move forward,” he said.
