Students Burnt To Death In Imo State Polytechnic

Two final year students from the Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo in Ohaji/Egbema local government area of the state, were reportedly burnt to death last Wednesday.

It was gathered that the students, whose names were not disclosed , had completed their Higher National Diploma, HND, examination and were looking forward to going for the mandatory National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, before the unfortunate occurrence.

However the story surrounding their death has two sides, one side pointing to cultist activities and the other side indicates an armed robbery attack.

A student who pleaded anonymity narrated the armed robbery incidence. “There was an armed robbery attack in the hostel of the deceased students. Unknown armed hoodlums stormed the hostel Wednesday night and robbed the inmates,” the student said.

He added that after robbing the inmates of their valuables at gun point, the roommates were tied in their rooms and set ablaze.

“We were told that the two students were equally robbed, tied in their room and set ablaze by the rampaging armed men, before fleeing the scene,” the student added.

The Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the institution, Mr. Darlington Oparaocha, confirming the incident to newsmen said, “It is true that two of our students have been reported dead. The incident occurred in a hostel close to the school,”
